Ok guys, been lurking and reading for sometime, lot's of knowledgable folks here.
I am on the verge of a purchase. We have 6 acres tota, 4 of which will be pasture, and about 1 acre of lawn around the house, the rest is wooded. Pasture will have to be cut, but not every week. The Wife is a Gardner extroidanaire...she wants something to dig holes for trees, bushes, plants and she thought the BX22 was just the ticket with it's small backhoe. An FEL will also come in handy to move mulch and dirt around when needed..
When we actually saw the BX22, I thought it was too small to handle the pasture, so I talked her into the B7500 with Backhoe, FEL and MMM. Now, I am the one having second thoughts...do we really need a backhoe (would be a Bush Hog on the B7500) to dig holes for her plantings? Would the BX22 really be a better purchase for what we want to do? Or should I be buying a post hole digger for digging plant holes....?
I having buyer paranoia!

I'm a novice and was having the same dilemna, more or less. We decided on the 7500 as it will take standard attachments, the BX won't necessarliy and is better served with attachments made specifically for the BX (it may not be able to lift some things high enough off the ground like a standard bush hog because the BS's low profile). We also decided that instead of spending the 5 grand for a backhoe, we'd rent one when we needed it.
This site is great though, like you said, a lot of knowledge and help. ....

For your information. I looked at both tractors in detail. My first thought was to purchase the B7500 but after going through a thought pattern, I end up purchasing the BX tractor. Why... mostly do to the difference in price. I felt that the BX could do everything the B7500 could do at a lot lesser price.

For what you want to do today, and what your gonna want to do tomorrow may be two totally different levels of work. I think that the majority of us will agree, that once you have your tractor, regardless of the make or model, your gonna realize all of the things that it can do for you, and, all the things that you want it to do. If you go too small, your gonna tax the machine and ultimately have problems down the road. It has been my belief, that a little overkill is better than underkill. I did just that with my first, many ditches ago, and very thankful that I did.
Yes the BX22 is potentially less costly than the B7500, but your comparing apples with oranges. If you want a true work machine, one that your not afraid of "over working" with the work intended, get the B7500, you'll be very glad you did. It is a heavier built machine with a totally different structure than that of the BX22, and all cat1 implements will fit it. With the BX22, many of the implements that you describe are not available to fit on the BX22 model. Experience speaks volumes...spend a little more now rather than paying costly repairs later, and have peace of mind that what the chores / work your doing , is not killing the tractor.

Long term wise you might want to think differently. With only one acre of lawn and the rest being undeveloped what are your uses and for what amount of time? Can you get thru your lawn with a 60" deck? Is your pasture level enough to be mowed with a finish mower? The BX22 I think would work well for you for the size of your lot. You still might save up some work for a larger hoe for a few hours but nothing like having your own. ....

I would encourage you to read the factory specs and then compare the two machines side by side. I respect the opinions of others, but I just cannot see where the BX is a "light duty" tractor and the B7500 is "heavy duty".
There are some design differences; the engines run at different rpm's and the wheels are smaller on the BX.
Once you get past that, the base weights, wheel base, width, horsepower class, loader specs, backhoe size/power and general capabilities don't have a nickels worth of difference between them. But the prices do, and way more than a nickel.
All of the three point stuff I bought for my Deere 4100 (same overall dimensions as the B7500) fits and functions just fine on my BX. It is all standard category 1 fittings and includes a 48" box scraper, a 60" rear blade and a posthole digger.
I don't have a mower but folks who do say the BX does a better job than the B 7500 due to different design features. It sounds to me like mowing will be the week in, week out job for your tractor, so you need to look at that feature. ....

In my opinion, the bx is a great machine for "on turf" work. The other b series being great "off Turf" machines. You really need to decide how much time you will be spending in your woodland and pasture. If it is significant you will really appreciate the large tires, additional ground clearence and additional HP of the 7500. Also unless your wife is planting some monster shrubs and trees, the post hole digger is a better solution for plants. Good luck on your decision and let us know how you make out. ....

Buz....agreed, good description. I like the on turf/off turf concept. Minor correction: BX 22/2200 has 22 HP. B7500 has 21 Horses. ....

Hi Mark,
Yes, the bx2200 is 22 hp and this is really one of my pet peeves about kubota marketing. Go to the following kubota web site

and look up the D905 engine used in the BX2200 and the D1005 used in the b7500. Compare the specs and powercurve and you will see that the b7500 is really much more powerful. What Kubota has done is rate the bx at a higher rpm which allows them to advertise a higher HP. Its interesting to me that when the b1700 was being sold it used the same engine but was only promoted as being a 17 HP machine. Even today the b7400 and bx1800 use the same engine but in the bx its called 18hp and in the b7400 its called 16hp.
Anyway enough of my rant as they are really both very good machines. ....

I have a BX2200 and a 48" Gearmore rough cutter ("bushhog"). I can cut thick brush and weeds 8' (yes FEET) tall without the engine dropping a single rpm. You could race the thing through your pasture at full throttle. I have a homemade dolly for the rough cutter. It goes on or off in <5 min. For the lawn, the Kubota 60" mid-mount deck goes on/off almost as quickly.
Though the 2200 doesn't take the backhoe, it will take the light auger made by Northern Tool & Eqpt. You're looking at a few hundred $ rather than a few thousand for something to dig vertical holes, though the auger won't dent hardpan. It can also be a bear to attach/dis-attach. I have a chain hoist on a rolling heavy pipe in my garage trusses. I use this to hoist the auger off then pivot, roll 2' to the wall and bolt/lock it to the wall. ....
